DOWHANIUK, Nick Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital at the age of 85. After a life filled with love and laughter, he sadly leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Fran. Cherished father of Michael (Cindy), Paul (Cindy), Craig, Gloria (Geoff), Laura (John), and Terrianne and family. He was a proud Papa to 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and another soon to arrive. Loving brother of Mary Capriotti (Jerry). Dear brother-in-law of John and Shirley Szasz. Nick was a former school trustee with the H.W.S.S.B. He was also a co-founder of L’Arche Hamilton, and Junior Ti-Cat Canadian Champion. Proud retiree of Award Limousine Services, where he was able to help and assist grieving families with his kindness and compassion. A loving husband, father, Papa, and friend. He will be truly missed. The family wishes to thank Kevin Smith, and the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Visitation at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME , 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King, 714 King St. W., Hamilton on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow with a private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to L’Arche Hamilton or the Firestone Chest and Allergy Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital would be appreciated.
