PETERCAMPBELL

PETER CAMPBELL Somewhere, a Dixieland band played. Somewhere, a friendly hand pegged points on a cribbage board. Somewhere, even on a hot August long weekend, someone pondered ordering the soup of the day. And, somewhere, Peter Campbell said “K’knock, k’knock” and walked through another door. After 29,380 days in this world, “Petey Boy” has moved on. Colin Peter Campbell, born February 23, 1936, left for the everlasting Blizzard Stop on August 1, 2016. His final chapter was written quietly, with his loving wife and two of his three children at his side. Peter Campbell married Nancy Osbourne Canfield on September 24, 1965. In almost 51 years of marriage, they raised three children, and, most recently, celebrated five grandchildren. Peter made a life, spending more than forty years in the Canadian footwear industry. He spent time with Eaton’s, Hallmark, Jarman, Baffin and Columbia. He travelled much of Ontario and eastern Canada, establishing lasting and valued relationships with retailers and suppliers, big and small. He loved his wife, his kids, his daughters-in-law and son-in-law, his grandkids, his friends, his sister and more. He loved playing cribbage, swimming, making toasted Westerns or his Christmas hash for family and friends. He loved, among other things, the Climax Jazz Band, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Indy 500. For many years, Peter was the public address voice of the Oakville Blades and served on the team’s executive. Announcing each goal and penalty, Peter’s voice was synonymous with Friday nights at Oakville Arena and he looked forward to those Fridays, alongside some of his closest friends. Peter overcame quadruple bypass surgery, prostate cancer, a ruptured Achillies tendon and a couple of broken shoulders. Each was an obstacle, but each provided motivation. Peter is survived by his wife and best friend, Nancy, his children Andy (Myfanwy Davies), of Fredericton, Jamie (Alison Redmond), of Toronto, and Marnie (Chris Ivanich), of Milton. He will be lovingly remembered by grandchildren Sydney, Wynn, Kaden, Jack and Georgia, his sister, Barb Stone, his family and countless friends. While our hearts are heavy, they are full. While we mourn, we celebrate. While we wish for one more day, we’re thankful for those he spent with us. A celebration of Pete’s life is being planned for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation in Peter’s name to Prostate Cancer Canada, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or your local Relay for Life. All three organizations helped him in one way or another. Say good night, Art.
