PHYLLISAILEEN KOFMEL

KOFMEL, PHYLLIS AILEEN (nee HENRY) Nurse, volunteer and needle worker. Died June 17, 2017, aged 89, in Ottawa, at home. Only daughter of Harold H. Henry and Grace C. Platten. Beloved wife of Eric (deceased). Devoted mother of Lynn (John), Karl and Kim (Mark). Grandmother of Graham, Karl, Cameron and Jessika. Graduate of the Oshawa General Hospital Training School for Nurses, 1949. BA with Distinction, Carleton University, 1985. Her career in nursing included maternity, OR, ER and nursing instruction; she practiced at the Oshawa General Hospital and the Ottawa Civic Hospital before retiring to raise a family and many freshwater aquarium fish with the love of her life, Eric. A skilled needlewoman, she sewed, knitted and embroidered items both useful and beautiful. Her volunteer activities included Girl Guides of Canada, Home and School Association, the Museum of Natural Science and the National Library and Archives Canada. She loved to learn, to teach and to create and she gave generously of her time and knowledge. Her devotion and loving support provided her family with strong roots and strong wings.
