Rasma(Kuze) KUSMANIS

KUSMANIS, Rasma (nee Kuze) – Our loving sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on January 26, 2017 in her 96th year. Kristus Darzs, the Latvian Home in Woodbridge, was her home for the last years of her life. We are extremely grateful to its staff – all true angels. Born September 14, 1921, in Riga, Latvia, Rasma spent her childhood on her family farm in the company of her two brothers Peteris and Vilis Kuze. She completed nursing school in Riga. World War II led her family to leave for Austria. There, she married Voldemars Kusmanis in the Austrian Alps and then immigrated to Ontario. They raised two children Ruta and Peteris in Willowdale. Rasma spent most of her nursing career at Mount Sinai Hospital, working with high risk pregnant women and newborns. She managed a home and the demands of her extended family, as well as her career, with grace. Her family deeply mourns her loss. She will remain in our hearts as a strong woman who influenced us all with her positive view on life, unconditional acceptance, generosity and remarkable love for all her family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on February 1, 2017 at YORK FUNERAL CENTRE (160 Beecroft Rd.), with visitation at 1:00 p.m., followed by a service and interment at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Kristus Darzs or Sidrabene would be appreciated to honour her memory.
