BRUCE, Raymond Allen In his 81st year, passed peacefully at his home in Port McNicoll on July 21, 2017, Barbara Bruce (nee Stoutley), his dear wife of 60 years and the love of his life, was by his side to the very end. Ray was a loving father to four children and is survived by Lauren Forbes, Lisa Moreau and Lee R. Bruce (Chiara Fergusson) and predeceased by Lynn Bruce. Ray was a loving and caring grandfather to Jamie Bruce (Filipa Amorim), Cheri-Lynn Dupuis, Leeann Bruce, Tyler Gill and Brandon Gill. Great-grandfather to Braylee Bruce, Breana Bruce, Kayden Bruce, Sienna Dupuis, Hunter Rowlands, Riley Bruce, Alyssa Bruce and Liam Bruce. Ray leaves behind his sister Wanda West (Ralph West) and was predeceased by his brother Grant Bruce. Ray was born to Adeline West July 30, 1936 and was raised as their own by Wallace Bruce and Forestine Bruce (nee West). Ray also leaves behind his brother Ronnie Marshall (Ruth) and sister-in-law Bonnie Marshall and was predeceased by Georgina Thompson, Eleanor Walsh, Joyce Morris and Roland Marshall. Raised on the farm in Colbeck, Ontario, Ray spent his formative years in the area. In the early fifties, Ray made his way to Hamilton, Ontario, where he found work with Coronet TV, even though he was on crutches at the time. Hamilton must have been Ray’s lucky town as while living there, he met the love of his life. He and Barbara would marry in 1957 and never leave each other’s side. Ray plied a few trades but there was always a truck in the picture. At first there were delivery trucks and then in the early sixties he started driving tractor trailers and never looked back. Whether it was tankers hauling chemicals and fuel, or flat decks with steel, Ray found his calling on the open road. Ray made the permanent move from the GTA to Port McNicoll in 1975 and drove for various companies. He also owned his own rig for a period. Towards the end of his career Ray moved inside and helped supervise service shops and obtained signing authority with MOT for driver competence. Ray retired in 1998 and spent the remainder of his time puttering, travelling and playing with his boats and cars, but most of all being with his dearest wife. A ceremony will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Church, 207 Pine St., Waubaushene, Ontario L0K 2C0. There will be a celebration of life and luncheon to follow in the Church Hall. For friends and family that wish to join, the interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Gravenhurst later in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Gift of Grace Soup Kitchen at Knox Presbyterian Church in Midland, Ontario, would be appreciated.
