THURSTON, Rose (nee Llewellyn) 1926-2017 Burlington – Rose Thurston, a long-time resident of the Hamilton area, died Saturday the 11th of March at the Brant long-term care centre in Burlington. Born in 1926 in Georgetown, PEI, Rose was the daughter of Charlotte and Chester Llewellyn and was the youngest of seven children. After winning a scholarship to UPEI, Rose choose to become a nurse. Rose worked as a nurse for 47 years all over Canada and spent the last 25 years of her career at Henderson Hospital in Hamilton. She met her husband Harry in Hamilton and they were married in 1962. They raised two children, Lauretta and Eric and were part of the Olivet United Church community for many years. Rose loved being with her family and grand-kids. She was an avid and skilled gardener and also enjoyed reading, lawn-bowling, skating, curling, British television shows, cats, scrabble, ginger cookies and wine. She had a particularly mischievous sense of humour that was often revealed in her smile. She is survived by her husband, Harry, her children Lauretta Weir and Eric Thurston, Lauretta’s husband Jeff Weir and their children Hannah and Justin and Eric’s wife Judy Thurston and their children Lucas, Jesse and Georgia. Memorial gifts may be made to the Canadian Cancer Socitey. A family service will be held Saturday, March 18th at 11 a.m. at MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL , 29 Cayuga St. N., followed by interment at Riverside cemetery in Cayuga. “Yes, they’ll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly, It’s good to touch the green, green grass of home.” www.millerfuneralchapel.ca
