SISTER MARION DOWNER (IMMACULATA) The Sisters of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, (Hamilton) are saddened to announce the death of Sister Marion Downer at St. Joseph’s Residence Hamilton, Ontario, on Thursday, September 28, 2017 in her 60th year as a Sister of St. Joseph. She was the daughter of the late Gilbert Downer and Ita Tobin. She was predeceased by her brother Paul and her sister Jeanette. She will be remembered by cousins in Peterborough and the United States and the members of her religious family, the Sisters of St. Joseph. Sister was born and raised in Peterborough and came to Hamilton to teach. It was here that she answered the call to enter religious life. Sister Marion was a dedicated teacher and a gifted musician and possessed a wry sense of humour. She taught in the Hamilton area and she shared her musical gift as a private music teacher and a church organist. In her later years, she continued to share her love of music at the Hamilton residence and was active in prayer ministry. The Sisters of St. Joseph will welcome family and friends at St. Joseph’s Residence, 574 Northcliffe Ave., Hamilton, on Monday, October 2, 2017. A vigil service will be held at 1:45 p.m. and visitation from 2:30-4:00 p.m. and 6:30-8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Residence Hamilton. As per Sister’s request interment will take place in Peterborough later that day. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, for the works of the Community would be appreciated.
