LEDINGHAM, Susan MacMillan —

Our sweet Susan passed away on May 10, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. She was 62. Predeceased by her parents Bob and Betty Ledingham, she leaves behind her husband Douglas Earle, sisters Jane and Anne, brother Rob (Karen), her beloved nieces and nephews Emily (Alison), Gwynne, Elliott (Jenny), Graeme and Duncan, her two step-sons Barton (Patrick) and Tim (Leigh) and her grandson Aaven.
Susan’s interest in fashion and her background in the fashion industry enabled her to become the very successful Senior Product Manager at H. A. Kidd And Company Limited, the family business. She was admired and respected internationally by industry Associates for her professionalism and knowledge. Susan was also an important manager who had the respect and affection of the people that worked with her. Suse was the youngest of the “Three Seesters” who spoke every night for decades and got together as often as possible – always with much laughter, a healthy dose of scotch or martinis and good food communally made. She was Doodie to her nephews, so much a part of their lives that she was like a second mother to them. She was the centre of the Ledingham family, her home the gathering spot for those from out of town. Susan was the love of Doug’s life, as he was hers. They lived together, worked together, travelled the world together, built a cottage together and the kissing never stopped. Susan was the Earle family’s social convenor, ensuring that birthdays and holidays were organized and celebrated. She and Doug annually hosted the famous Boxing Day/Mac’n’Cheese Day when the entire Earle family, the Ledingham family and significant others got together under one roof to catch up. Suse grew up spending summers at Bruce Beach, where the concept of family took on new meaning beyond blood ties. We adopted the Finlaysons and the Davidsons as family, and we’ve remained close to this day. But Doug introduced Suse to Muskoka and a different, more private, cottage experience. Shortly before her diagnosis 4 years ago construction on their new dream cottage was completed. They went there often, in all seasons, sharing it with friends and family. It was their place to slow down, listen to the birds, relax and recharge. Our Susie was kind, gracious and a loyal friend. She had a smile for everyone that she encountered. Susan made sure each person she dealt with was acknowledged and she always said thank you. She is greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2nd from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Turner and Porter – Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto, followed by a celebration of her life at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the St. Michael’s Foundation or the SickKids Foundation would be appreciated. Interment will be at a later date at the Dornoch Cemetery.
