It is with deep sadness that we announce Vernon’s passing, peacefully with his family at the age of 89 in Mississauga on November 10, 2016. Vernon was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on January 2, 1927 where his journey took him and his family from Trinidad to England and then finally to Canada in the mid 1960s. Vernon enjoyed sharing the intriguing experiences he encountered throughout his lifetime and loved to make people laugh with his wit and humour. He will be missed and remembered by all. Predeceased by his first wife Sylvia Cheong. Survived by his wife Annaly Cheong. Loving father of Cheryl-Ann Renner, Donna Chalmers and Gillian Anderson. Proud grandfather of Cheron Gomes, Matthew Anderson, Richard Austin, Laura Courneyea and Candice Chalmers-Preston. Great-grandfather of Ashley Gomes, Marshall Gomes, Mason Gomes, McKinley Courneyea, Orion Austin and Brinley Courneyea and step-son Liam Cheong. Predeceased by his brothers Ram, Victor, Calvin, Harry and sister Rita. In keeping with Vernon’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends may gather from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. for visitation, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16th at GLEN OAKS FUNERAL HOME AND CEMETERY, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, 905-257-8822. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
